Last month we discussed Consistent Navigation, Functional Links, and Logical Organization - three features of a professional website. This month we will look at the next three.
4. Consistent Look and Feel A website’s look and feel should be established on the landing (home) page, and remain consistent for the visitor’s stay. This means that navigational elements and content remain in roughly the same place on each page of the website. www.adoberealtor.com is a good example of a consistent look and feel.
5. Appropriate Use of a Database
If a catalog or photo gallery is made available on a web site then there are probably lots of pages with exactly the same layout but different pictures or information. Using a database and a few dynamic web pages to will save many hours of maintenance by reducing the total number of web pages required to display the information. www.yourrvwizard.com make extensive use of a database.
6. Ability to Grow
Just because your web site has three sections today does not mean that three sections will suffice tomorrow. By anticipating growth, space can be left on a site to add new sections easily. www.guytonchiro.com is a good example of a web site with room to add more sections.
Next month we will look at Fast Navigation, Target Audience, and Optimized Images.
